A loving community of Christ-followers glorifying God together by making disciples of all nations

To all those in Rome…

Life may not have been great for  Christians in the capital of the Roman world in the first century A.D., but compared to the trials to come it may have seemed so at the time Paul’s letter arrived. Eager to preach the gospel to the Roman Christians, the apostle Paul could not afford to wait until he could visit them in person. They needed both encouragement and instruction NOW! The decadence and depravity of Rome, like a cancer spreading to the ends of the empire, was threatening to destroy even the witness of the church.

It’s eerie to note the similarities between the Roman Empire and the moral bankruptcy of modern civilization. Far from immune to such ills, Paul’s letter is just as urgent for today’s churches.
